Giving Blueday is March 16
March 16, 2022, is an important day for Precision Health at U-M. We are not only hosting our half-day symposium, whose theme is “Advancing Responsible Healthcare Innovation Using Artificial Intelligence,” but we are also, on U-M’s annual Giving Blueday, asking donors, friends, and the Precision Health community to support the cutting-edge health breakthroughs made possible when researchers across disciplines come together.
Finding new and effective treatments is one aspect of Precision Health, but it goes beyond the hospital and doctor’s office to address the big-picture challenges of delivering effective and equitable health care, such as:

Our workgroups, which bring together faculty from Engineering, Public Health, Medicine, and Pharmacy, each focus on distinct areas in which to advance precision health. Data Analytics & IT expands the tools and resources in our rich Analytics Platform and creates and curates datasets accessible to researchers across campus. Health Implementation looks at ways to apply precision health advances at the point of care. Cohort Development works to diversify our large study participant community so it accurately represents the broader population. Education & Training, through seminars, symposia, and a graduate certificate program, keeps researchers, clinicians, students, and the public educated about precision health’s challenges and advancements.
Two Precision Health use cases are actively addressing two pressing health challenges: The Precision Opioid Prescribing use case is finding ways to prevent opioid misuse by establishing opioid prescription guidelines for surgical procedures and finding effective pain-management alternatives to opioids. The PROMPT Precision Health Study is looking at ways to leverage mobile technology to provide responsive mental health care more quickly to individuals who need it, and deliver the most effective form of care for a given person.
