U-M Precision Health (PH) is committed to supporting precision health science and engineering activities across campus by providing the resources and infrastructure needed to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to health and health care. Over the past four years, PH has developed core resources and services to aid in discovering how multiple factors influence disease development and progression, devising approaches to prevent disease, creating novel treatments, and crafting a functional roadmap for implementing discoveries in real-world health care settings.

The Precision Health Cohort Development Workgroup is charged with continuing to grow and develop the community of participants who have consented to share their health data for research activities. This workgroup is built on a strong foundation and aims to enhance the ability of our PH members to make new and impactful insights about health care by:

  • Sustaining a large and engaged participant community with unique and reusable data resources
  • Supporting and continually improving our modern, scalable recruiting process with a strong focus on enhancing participant diversity, including African-American and Latinx communities, to complement our MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) recruiting efforts
  • Devising new and novel strategies and datastreams that would enrich the cohort where appropriate

PH is seeking the next Faculty Associate Director for Cohort Development, to continue the current success of this team and guide its future direction, in collaboration with the PH co-directors and the leadership team.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge and research interest in health data systems, how health data can be used in research, and familiarity with current issues in health data use, privacy, and access
  • A senior faculty member at University of Michigan, at the Professor or Associate Professor level
  • Proven record of research, working in teams, and leading decision making at an institutional level

EXPECTED TIME COMMITMENT:

  • Negotiated faculty effort on an annual basis, estimated at 10-20%, which will encompass a leadership role interacting with staff that support the daily operations of the workgroup, bimonthly faculty workgroup leadership meetings, and key scientific interactions with invited speakers, National Advisory Board members, and U-M faculty interested in PH
  • Initial two-year term; subsequent one-year extensions may be offered by mutual agreement with the PH co-directors

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In consultation with the PH co-directors and other faculty experts, continue to grow, develop, and implement strategic priorities for the Cohort Development Workgroup
  • Engage researchers representing a diverse set of perspectives to help shape the vision and priorities for PH
  • Lead the Staff Manager and team on successful operations of Cohort Development
  • Act as a strong advocate and spokesperson for PH, promoting activities and collaborations internally and externally
