Research Scouts Making Investments in Bold Ideas; Submit Yours Now!

University of Michigan Medical School’s Research Scouts is an agile, low-burden funding program which gives money to scientists (the “Scouts”) to invest in other scientists’ bold ideas. It’s an investment in the “Bold Science” objective of Michigan Medicine’s research strategic plan. We’re proud that 9 Precision Health members are part of the Research Scouts team: Simpa Salami, Venkatesh Murthy, Laurie Buis, Susan Woolford, Peter Todd, Ivo Dinov, Geoffrey Siwo, Megan Haymart, Chase Schuler.

The Research Scouts have funded 16 Projects, with $2 million still available to invest in bold ideas! Congratulations to the three Precision Health members who’ve already been awarded Research Scouts funding; Cathy Goldstein, Devin L. McCaslin, & Ahmed Abdel-Latif (pictured above).

If you have an early-stage and bold idea, whether in basic or clinical research, there’s still opportunity to submit your idea! Each Scout has up to $150,000 to disperse, and they’re interested in impactful/novel approaches, technologies, methodologies, and tools too early for traditional funding mechanisms.

We encourage Precision Health members to learn more about the program, and to submit your bold ideas! Use this questionnaire to submit your idea, even if it seems outlandish or aims to achieve incremental yet impactful change: https://lnkd.in/gs6YBNbN
