Precision Health researchers, we need your help!
(and there’s a $200 prize)

A primary goal of Precision Health at the University of Michigan is to build a community of research participants that accurately reflects the general population. Current Precision Health studies, combined, have recruited close to one hundred thousand participants, but the majority of those individuals are of European ancestry and above age fifty. Our study population is sorely lacking in ethnic minorities and other underrepresented groups. And Precision Health wants to change that.

We are working to expand the diversity of our research population by recruiting participants from a variety of clinical and nonclinical environments, and emphasizing the value each person brings to advancing science.

This research population is currently known as the “Precision Health Participant Community,” or “PHPC”: a name that is not brief, not distinctive, and not memorable as an acronym.

What’s in a name? Lots.

Precision Health is requesting your help in finding a memorable new name for this group: one that conveys the value and diversity of these research participants. Along with a name, we are soliciting brief taglines to add detail/elaborate.

The winner(s) will receive a $200 Visa gift card.

Some guidelines:

  • The new name, particularly in acronym form, should be brief and easy to remember.
  • Mention U-M in the name, if possible.
  • Emphasize the concept of “health,” over “genetics” or “biobank.”
  • Words like “partner,” “collaborator,” and “participant” imply an active voice and a vital role.
  • The concept of “community” or “team” is significant.
  • Diversity is key. This community is for the benefit of everyone’s health.
  • Convey that a diverse group is essential to advancing research in a meaningful and groundbreaking way.

The population that benefits from health research is only as diverse as the population data that informed that research.
